Here’s the thing, I’m not here to knock anybodies hustle. There are a ton of bloggers out there with amazing courses that teach great strategies. There are a lot of books and e-courses that have mediocre content that didn’t come from the creators heart and don’t teach as much as they promise you.
Either way, this is what you should consider before you buy another course on Pinterest or a third book on affiliate marketing.
1. Are You a Beginner? Like A Total Newbie?
One thing you need to establish before even touching a card to buy a course is your mindset. I have a post all about this The Real Reason Your Blog Isn’t Making Money. Your mindset is your biggest tool as an entrepreneur because you are relying on yourself to bring in an income. Tons of successful entrepreneurs talk about the importance of building a success mindset and they’re right! As a blogger, you are an entrepreneur. Which means you need to start building a mindset that supports your work.
Whatever you believe you get to have or deserve to have, you will have. This is not different from running an online business. If you believe you have to work extremely hard to succeed and work at least 8+ hours, then you’re right. You’ll find that you only get the results you want when you work long exhausting days because thats what you believe you have to do. However, if you believe that blogging is fun and easy, that you get to make money in whatever time you decide, then your results will look very did.
Mine do.
There are people who will disagree. That’s okay. I had a woman on Twitter who reached out via my tweet about affiliate marketing and how fast I started making money say that she had been blogging for years and had made under £500 all those years.
I then asked her about her mindset, she replied with “My mindset has nothing to do with it. You do know you only get 1-3% of what you sell right?” I wasn’t offended, just curious, and I clicked on her profile. In her bio she literally had the words “broke girl” to describe herself.
Yeah, mindset has nothing to do with it. 🙄
Bottom line is, she replied snappily because of her own limiting beliefs. What you believe about yourself is key. You fix this, and everything else will fall into place. You will be drawn to the right courses to buy to fix your strategies, affiliate marketing skills, and traffic instead of buying from a place of fear that you do not know enough and are not good enough.
A success mindset creates empowered buyers and that’s what I want you all to be.
A lot of marketing strategies are designed to prey on your “pain points”. The pitch to a lot of courses is designed to make you feel insecure and prey on your worst fears of failure in your business.
I feel neutral on this strategy besides feeling like it is entirely unnecessary to sell something. However, it does happen and it is popular. You have probably been a victim of it. I have been too.
That’s why in the beginning, when your beautiful ideas are just starting to form, you have to protect yourself from that by having an empowered mindset. When you have an empowered mindset you do not fall for people who tell you that you have to do something because of their own limiting beliefs, slimy marketing ploys, or listen to a whole lot of overwhelming long list of things you “have” to do.
You get to do this blogging thing however you want. You get to interact on the internet how you want. You only need to do two things to blogging and thats to decide what you get to have and show up to share your content.
There are people who make all of their money because of FB ads. There are people who make all of their money and sell only through their email list and pull in 7 figures a year (Shameless Sarah Titus plug, I love her!). There are people who do neither and sell through Pinterest.
Bottomline, it doesn’t really matter. They are still doing the two things above: Deciding what they get to have and showing up to share their content.
It is the way that makes sense for them so it “works” and they make the money and get the beautiful house and the thriving business they love.
It could’ve been easier, it could have been faster, but a lot of us feel like we have to work super hard for a really long time to make money especially with something like blogging.
So we work really hard and it takes a really long time and we go around telling others that’s what they have to do when we could have just decided it was easy and fun, and it didn’t have to take that long and made the money anyway. It is all about belief and rewriting negative money narratives if we have them. I write about this in the 7 Ways Your Money Mindset Is Sabotaging Your Business.
The strategy will get you 20% of the way there. Strategy can be used to scale your business for sure. But when you are just starting, nourishing your brain is far more important.
Your content will get better with time. If you have a technical problem in your biz that’s keeping you from selling you are in a rare and wonderful position because you can fix it and be done with it. Most of the time what keeps us from the success we want is the mental stuff.
2. What Do You Want And Is The Course Creator Living That Outcome?
If the creator of the course is not living the life you want to live, you should not be buying their course and looking to take their advice.
For example,
I would never buy a course from someone who said hard work was the cornerstone of success, you had to work within strict structures like content calendars and habit trackers, and to not expect to make any money your first year in business.
If they built a business in these confines, I would not want their outcome, so therefore I am not going to take their advice.
You should do the same.
If you want to blog full time maybe don’t take a course from someone who specializes in building a business on the side with a 9-5.
If you want to scale your business to multiple six figures, don’t buy a course from someone who thinks it isn’t possible to with a blog and instead teaches you to turn your blog into a side hustle.
If you’re interested in selling products, don’t buy a course from someone who says you have to do affiliate marketing and makes most of their money doing that.
You get my drift.
Just because someone has reached success does not mean they have reached our version of success.
I want a lot of my freedom. I want to build a 7 figure business. I want to help a lot of women change their beliefs about money, build their mindset and confidence around earning their own money through online business.
I’m not interested in waiting years to see success. I don’t think you should have to. I don’t want to follow some rigid strategy that makes business sound like gibberish. So I won’t be taking the advice or courses of people who do these things.
Don’t be lured in by the promise of solving all of your blogging problems with a simple Pinterest strategy because it is never the strategy alone that causes you to succeed. It is your belief in that strategy. There are 1000 strategies that will get you where you need to go. Invest in courses and creators who speak your language and make you feel seen and heard.
That’s how you get the best ROI. The best strategy will not beat a mindset that says “I don’t deserve success”. The best strategy that feels forced will not work because you will not be aligned with it. You will do it because you “have to” and when you do business from that place you come off as inauthentic and your audience will not connect with your message.
Be you. Be secure in knowing that you’re gonna succeed regardless of any course. Buy from that place and not a second before you get there.
3. You Have To Do It To Actually Learn
Learning can be a way of hiding. I know all about that.
I am the research queen.
I will crawl through blog archives until 6 am in an attempt to absorb every word. I want to know everything there is to know. I research everything. It takes me days to pick something as simple as a new shampoo because I have to read reviews and watch videos and man, if I wasn’t such a fast reader I would probably never leave my house.
Anyway, don’t hide behind your research. I am guilty. You are probably guilty, and at some point you have to decide that even though you don’t know literally everything, you still have something worth saying. You know more than you think you do. You should start now.
I took two months to start this blog. I spent that time researching like a mad woman. Reading as many blog posts as I could get my hands on. Pinning until my fingers were numb. I never found THE answer because there isn’t one.
There are so many ways to make this blog thing work.
There are so many strategies you can try and play with and still get exactly where you want to be.
Stop wasting time trying to find the ONE way that is going to get you where you need to go and realize that you just have to start showing up, posting, and seeing where it takes you. Decide you’re going to be successful. Decide what you want out of this because you get to build a business that supports your life not the other way around.
Right now, I have just launched my new course Broke Bloggers Be Gone.
It is designed for new bloggers, and as far as I know is the only course on the market that is a mindset course for bloggers.
I did a lot hands on research before creating this course
I was very active in the blogging community at one point. I was in tons of Facebook groups, I chatted on live calls, I participated in Twitter chats, it was a lot of fun.
A lot of the issues that people would bring up for their blog were all the same.
“I can’t get enough traffic to my blog. How do I increase my traffic?”
“No matter what I do no one will click on my affiliate links! What do I do?”
“I can’t make Pinterest work for me. What am I doing wrong?”
And yes, these are very common problems which I dealt with too, but there was a bigger problem that no one seemed to be addressing.
The way bloggers talked about blogging.
Seriously even bigger bloggers would say stuff to newer bloggers like “Don’t expect to make a cent until it’s been at least a year and you have at least 50 posts” and “Blogging is extremely difficult to make money from” and “Blogging traffic is always inconsistent in the Winter so don’t try to sell anything then.”
I remember feeling so small. I was terrified that blogging would never work for me because if the ones who had “made it” said stuff like this it must be true.
NO!
After a while I stopped engaging on stuff as much because I was so tired of the fear-based conversations. I thought about those conversations a lot until one day I asked myself
What if that didn’t have to be true for me?
What if I could make money blogging simply because I am choosing to and nothing or no one will stop me?
That is when I promised myself I would make money blogging my first month.
Not only to show others what was possible, but to prove to myself that I created my own reality and my own results.
That’s how Broke Broke Bloggers Be Gone was born.
It is a mindset course for new bloggers to help you build a success mindset, blend strategy with mindset, and how to start making money with your blog right away.
In the course we cover things like:- The biggest blogging myth that’s keeping you broke. Seriously, after talking to several bloggers before creating this course and my own research this is the #1 thing that was keeping bloggers from making money with their blogs.
- Blog biz basics from Pinterest to writing content that your audience loves and sells your products and affiliates. We cover all the basics in this portion of the course!
- Cleaning up limiting money mindset issues that are keeping you small and reframing what it means to earn income online. If you wanna read more about this you can check out 7 Ways Your Money Mindset Is Sabotaging Your Business.
- The relationship between mindset and believing in your business + taking practical action everyday to get there
I have built two blogging businesses from the ground up. I created and infused this course with the intention of getting you to your blogging goals faster as well as helping you build a success mindset that will serve you all throughout your entrepreneur journey.
You can click here if you’d like to check it out, it is the cheapest it will EVER be right now!.
4 video modules, 4 written, over four hours of content + a 30 day blueprint to make your first money blogging or scale your current income.I walk the walk and talk the talk, so if you’re interested in the process I have undergone and several others have to now, check it out!
It really is that simple.
I will not let people in this industry pretend it isn’t.
Focus on the stuff that’s fun for you. Focus on building a success mindset. Create content you love, say what’s on your heart, put into place some of the many blogging monetization strategies (Affiliate marketing, Brand Sponsorships, Selling Digital Products/Courses, Coaching, etc!) believe it is possible, make money for it.
Buy from a place of empowerment and know that yes, this course or e-book might help and teach me something I did not know, but it is not the make or break of my success. I do not have to listen to something that feels wrong for me.
As always,
Don’t give up on your daydream.

That is so sweet thank you so much for your kind words! I would love to have you in the course! I just redid the sales page a little bit so you should definitely check it out, I was so excited to create one of the first mindset courses for bloggers. I hope you enjoy it!
I completely understand your point. However, I just started a lifestyle blog (fashion, beauty, money tips) and with the rise of youtube, is it possible that lifestyle blogs don’t make money anymore?
I’d live to hear more from new/recent lifestyle bloggers, are you guys making money with a lifestyle blog?
Hi Darceline, I completely understand your point but actually people use their blog to promote their videos! Blogs aren’t just sitting down and writing blog posts, some people just upload their video with a little info about it and that is their version of a “blog” post. A blog is just a vehicle to share your gifts, and blogs especially when combined with Pinterest or Instagram can be a great place to store your videos and affiliate links and funnel traffic to them and gain new Youtube subscribers and also passive sales for affiliates. I hope that makes sense!
